After the success of cover bands in South Vietnam, many Vietnamese musicians started to write their own songs inspired by american rock music.  These new songs shared similar instruments, flow, and lyrical styles as the American versions.  Rock quickly became the most popular genre in South Vietnam.  Below are two examples of famous Vietnamese rock songs during the war.  Both are from Saigon Rock & Soul: Vietnamese Classic Tracks 1968-1974, released in 2010 under Sublime Frequencies.

"Bài Ca Ngông (The Crazy Song)" - Elvis Phương

"Con Tim Và Nước Mắt (Heart And Tears)" - Bich Loan & CBC Band
